The world is loaded with myths. Like in flooring installation. And at Fort Worth’s Carpet World, we’re here to debunk them.
The flooring installation is as important, if not more so, than the actual product. Most rooms are not perfect squares, and there might also be baseboards and closets with which to work, so it needs precise measurement.
Install it incorrectly and you’ll end up with rolls, bumps, uneven seems, squeaky floors and more. Protect your investment, and make sure it’s done correctly the first time around.
Here are more myths:
Myth: You’ll save money by doing it yourself.
Answer: You’ll not only not save, but you’ll probably end up paying even more. For one thing, mistakes can be costly, and you might need to replace it. Second, you’ll pay retail for tools and materials; flooring installation professionals do this for a living, so they buy wholesale. You’ll pay retail. Third, if the flooring installation isn’t done to the specifications of the manufacturer, mistakes, even those which are not the fault of the homeowner or installer, may not be covered in the warranty. A flooring installation expert will know how to prepare, install and dispose responsibly. Not to mention, there are a lot of flooring decisions to make, and a flooring installation specialist can help you make sense of it all.
Myth: You just need to glue or staple the floor down.
Answer: First, you need to deal with the sub-floor, because that is the lower level floor that sets the foundation for your floor. Some types of flooring can be installed over almost anything, but others require the subfloor to be perfectly even. They can be tricky. Second, in the case of hardwood, it must first be acclimated before installation; this is the process that keeps the hardwood from expanding or contracting due to climate changes. A flooring installation specialist can advise.
