Carpet World, which is the largest flooring retailer in the Dallas/ Fort Worth area, gives you some suggestions on making your new floor worthy of being called the “jewel in the crown” of your Dallas home.
So the first thing to do is avoid some common installation mistakes, such as:
- Not using a good installer. Don’t hire a general contractor to do the work, but someone who specializes only on the floor. How long have they been in business? Do they have licenses and certifications? Also--and this is big--whether it’s tile, vinyl, hardwood flooring or any other installation, you need to find out how many of that particular type they installed, because every flooring type requires different skills, techniques and tools. Just because they did a lot of one type, doesn’t necessarily mean they know how to do another type.
- Skimping on padding. Think of padding as the asphalt on a driveway; you can’t see it, but is it ever important! Padding is the foundation of a carpet; If it’s “crunchy,” too thin or too thick, or doesn’t have enough “give,” you’ll end up with an installation full of ripples, and you certainly won’t want that, Dallas!
And by the way, be sure to check the warranty, to be sure the padding answers their specification exactly, or you may not be covered.
- Not pulling and stretching the carpet enough. If the installer doesn’t do this correctly, you’ll see wrinkles.
- Not securing the edges enough. They should be securely tucked under walls and boards. If there’s fraying or loose edges, it hasn’t been tacked or taped enough, and it might even separate from the wall.
