First, there’s your lifestyle and style Are you traditional or modern? Do you want something quirky and fun that can add a little unexpected jazz to your room? Do you hate to clean? For instance, there are fun, colorful, and quirky shag rugs, but they can be hard to keep clean, so if that’s an issue, it may not be right for you. Do you have a large family with kids? Do you have pets? What is your budget?
Second, consider the room in which the carpet installation will take place. Does it have high or low traffic? Is it a family room where people might sit on the floor to watch TV or play games, or a home office where you have chairs with wheels? These answers will help you determine if you want a high or low pile. Is the room sunny and hot with direct sunlight?
Also, is the room a perfect square or rectangle, or does it have moldings, baseboards, a heavy-and-almost-impossible to move armoire, or some other piece of furniture? The more information you give the installer, the better. That’s always the case, whether it’s hardwood flooring or a laminate, tile or vinyl installation.
Now it’s time to shop!
Make sure you compare apples to apples, and not apples to oranges. What we mean by that is that two rugs might look and feel the same, but that doesn’t mean they are the same. Look at fiber, style and warranty; if one warranty is for one period, while another is for a longer period, you’re looking at two very different qualities.
